Necropolis of Anser
ConceptThe Necropolis of Anser is an enormous carved volcanic mountain of stone more structure than natural formation, its surface uniquely etched with Aztec-style pterodactyl and bird reliefs. Internally it forms a dark low-ceilinged maze of trapped brick hallways and hieroglyph-carved chambers descending vertically to the sealed crypt and throne room at its base, haunted by a ghostly avian entity. The base interacts with the ocean via pumps and drains while the top once supported a village in a bowl-like depression.
In the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, the Necropolis of Anser is introduced in Book 4 as a colossal, artificially sculpted volcanic mountain that functions as a vertical dungeon labyrinth. Its Aztec-inspired exterior and trap-filled interior of hieroglyph-lined halls guide crawlers downward to a ghostly crypt and throne room, while ocean pumps at the base and a long-abandoned village atop create layered environmental hazards. The structure embodies the series' fusion of ancient mythology and lethal mechanics, serving as a self-contained challenge without further evolution depicted across later books.
