Skaa Hovels

Skaa Hovels begin as the miserable, mist-shrouded dwellings of the Final Empire’s oppressed underclass—low, dirt-and-wood mounds whose packed earthen floors and weak firepits offer scant protection against the mists. As the series progresses, these hovels transform from passive symbols of subjugation into active sites of rebellion, sheltering secret meetings, storing smuggled weapons, and witnessing the first sparks of organized resistance. By the later books, the hovels evolve into the literal and figurative foundations of a new society, their reclaimed spaces becoming the seeds of skaa-run communities and the physical reminder of how far the skaa have come from imperial oppression.
