MineMagistrate Podginus appears only in the opening chapters of Red Rising as the petty Copper enforcer of Lykos, yet his brief reign of mechanical cruelty becomes the first concrete face of the Society’s hierarchy that Darrow learns to hate. After his orchestration of a public hanging, Podginus vanishes from the narrative, leaving behind a vacuum that Darrow’s rebellion exploits; his absence in later books underscores how the lowest rung of the oppressor class is swept aside once the larger war ignites.
