Passage Ring

The Passage Ring first emerges in Red Rising as the brutal, enclosed arena where Institute initiates must kill and consume their peers to prove their worth among the Golds. Across the saga it transforms from a literal site of savage culling into a haunting symbol of the Society’s cannibalistic hierarchy, recurring in memory and metaphor as Darrow’s rebellion exposes and dismantles the very system the ring was meant to uphold. By later books the ring’s legacy haunts surviving characters, representing both the personal horrors that forged Darrow and the institutional violence he ultimately seeks to eradicate.
