Ascomanni Obsidians
creatureFeral Obsidian raiders escaped Society culling, pale scarred skin, long dirty white braids, scrap armor with animal pelts, axes hammers, eat human flesh, chant khoomei to Hel
The Ascomanni Obsidians evolve from feral, cannibalistic raiders in Iron Gold into genetically engineered space nomads by Light Bringer, their transformation reflecting both their own adaptation and the series' expanding scope. Initially portrayed as escaped Society outcasts with ritualistic, primitive warfare, they are later revealed to be the product of deliberate Carver breeding programs, their pale, scarred bodies and psychotropic fearlessness the result of generations of eugenic manipulation. Across the books, their presence shifts from localized threats on the fringes of the Solar System to a galaxy-spanning menace whose asteroid-nest origins and vacuum-adapted physiology make them uniquely suited to the post-Society power vacuum.
