Gilded Lions

The Gilded Lions begin as a subtle, almost decorative detail in the forest-panelled walls of a Gold estate, yet their presence quietly foreshadows the predatory nature of the ruling class. Across the series they recur as both literal carvings and symbolic totems—markers of wealth, lineage, and the ever-present threat of the lion’s claw beneath the gilt. By the later books they have been co-opted by revolutionaries who deface or repurpose them, transforming the lions from emblems of aristocratic supremacy into ironic trophies of a crumbling regime.
