Oil of Hemantus

Oil of Hemantus first appears in Golden Son as a rare, crimson-hued extract distilled from the petals of the Hemantus flower, a bloom that grows only in the deepest radiation-scarred caverns of Mars. Initially introduced as a ceremonial perfume prized by Gold houses, the oil quickly reveals itself to be a potent neurotoxin capable of inducing temporary paralysis and vivid hallucinations. Across the later books its role expands from a ritual unguent into a clandestine weapon and finally into a symbol of rebellion, as rebel cells weaponize its hallucinogenic properties to undermine Gold command structures.
