Nob

Minor

Nob's cheery grin bursts like sunlight through Bree's gloom, his hobbit bounce infectious as he trots with candles and winks. There's a resilient spark in his wide eyes, undimmed by late-night fears. You feel warmed by his unpretentious helpfulness amid strangers.

Nob, the cheerful hobbit servant at the Prancing Pony in Bree, provides loyal and comic relief during the hobbits' tense stay in 'The Fellowship of the Ring,' the only book in which he appears in J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings' series. Amid the terror of Black Riders, Nob's grinning efficiency and quick thinking aid Frodo, Sam, Pippin, and Merry by delivering essentials, ruffling decoy beds, and discovering the wounded Merry. Though his role is minor and confined to Bree, Nob exemplifies the unassuming bravery of ordinary folk in the face of encroaching darkness, with no further evolution or appearances in subsequent volumes.

Physical Description

Nob is an adult hobbit of average build with a perpetually cheery expression, often grinning with a playful wink. His simple servant attire suits his bustling role, as he bobs and trots about energetically. Hair occasionally stands on end from sudden frights, adding to his wide-eyed, resilient charm.
