Cair Andros
Cair Andros is a long island set northward in the Anduin River, held as a defensive outpost for Gondor. Horses are kept on the hither bank, and a stream from a rocky gate passes through adjacent flowery meads into the river's tides by the isle. Marshes lie to the north hindering assaults, with the broad river to the south toward Lebennin.
Cair Andros, a strategically vital island fortress in the Anduin River north of Minas Tirith, serves as Gondor's key defensive outpost against northern incursions, its marshes and broad river providing natural barriers. Introduced in The Return of the King, it plays a crucial role in the War of the Ring as the staging ground for Aragorn's daring river-borne assault on the enemy forces besieging Minas Tirith. Though spared direct combat due to its impregnable position, the island's garrison contributes significantly to turning the tide of battle during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
