Isengard

fortressancient Númenórean industrial

Isengard appears in The Lord of the Rings.

Isengard, the fortified valley and industrial stronghold under Saruman's command, undergoes a dramatic transformation across The Lord of the Rings, evolving from a polluted war machine to a verdant paradise. In The Two Towers, it serves as the epicenter of Saruman's orc-breeding operations and aggressive war efforts against Rohan, culminating in its devastating sack by the Ents. By The Return of the King, the Ents have reshaped it into the lush Treegarth of Orthanc, a garden of orchards, streams, and sentinel trees encircling the impregnable Tower of Orthanc rising from a central lake.

The Return of the King: Being the Third Part of the Lord of the Rings

Isengard is now the Treegarth of Orthanc, transformed by Ents into a garden. The former stone circle is gone and the land is filled with orchards, trees, a stream, and a central lake of clear water. The black Tower of Orthanc rises tall and impregnable from the lake, its reflection visible in the pool, with sentinel trees marking the green path to its locked entrance.
