Mines of Moria
Once a splendid Dwarven city of light and craftsmanship now a dark ruined labyrinth of immense pillared halls, twisting perilous passages, dusty battle-scarred chambers and fiery chasms. The Fellowship traverses its vast shadowy depths filled with ancient wonder, lurking hazards and the heavy shadow of decay.
The Mines of Moria, once Khazad-dûm, the grandest Dwarven kingdom renowned for its mithril riches and majestic halls, fell into darkness after awakening a nameless terror in the depths, becoming a haunted ruin by the Third Age. In The Fellowship of the Ring, the shattered Fellowship of the Ring desperately traverses its perilous passages, confronting orcs, trolls, and the ancient evil of the Balrog, marking the site's pivotal role as a crucible of loss and heroism. Though not revisited in later volumes, Moria's tragic legacy echoes through the series, symbolizing the perils of unchecked greed and the enduring shadow of ancient evils upon Middle-earth.
