Swan-ship

unique_object

Elven swan-ship with white body, curving neck, gold beak, jeweled eyes, vast wings, steered by black paddles

The Swan-ship, an exquisite Elven vessel with a white body, curving neck, golden beak, jeweled eyes, vast wings, and steered by black paddles, makes its sole but memorable appearance in The Fellowship of the Ring as a symbol of Elven craftsmanship and grace. It ferries the Fellowship across the Anduin River from the southern bounds of Lothlórien, marking a poignant transition from the golden woods to the perilous wilds beyond. Though it does not reappear in later books, the Swan-ship embodies the fading beauty of the Elves as Middle-earth's Third Age draws to a close.
