Pits of Hathsin

The Pits of Hathsin begin as the Empire’s most brutal atium mine, a place of punishment and extraction where skaa prisoners are worked to death. After the Lord Ruler’s fall, the pits become a symbol of the old regime’s cruelty and a strategic resource that the fledgling New Empire must decide whether to abandon or exploit. By the time of the Catacendre, the Pits are revealed to be the physical manifestation of Ruin’s prison, their geodes feeding both atium and the dark god’s power; their ultimate collapse signals the end of one age and the birth of another.
