Twenty-seventh

Minor

The Twenty-seventh writhes in raw desperation, sweat and saliva tracing paths down his young face amid screams that echo primal fear. His struggles pulse with frantic energy, a visceral storm of youth confronting horror. You can't look away from the sheer humanity in his terror.

The Twenty-seventh is a minor crewman aboard the Clear Air Turbulence in 'Consider Phlebas,' whose brutal torture and execution by Fwi-Song the Vulture marks one of the series' most visceral scenes of horror. Tied to a sharpened log on a desolate beach, he endures systematic mutilation before being beheaded and devoured, serving as a grim pawn in Horza's power struggle. Absent from subsequent Culture novels, his fleeting presence underscores the savage underbelly of interstellar conflict, with no further evolution across the series.

Physical Description

The Twenty-seventh is a young man, sweat and saliva dripping from his contorted face as he screams and struggles. His body bears blood streaks, mangled extremities with toes and fingers stripped bare, hands pinned by spikes. Mouth wedged open by wood blocks then gagged with a rag, he lies semi-conscious, face up under a boulder on his feet.
