Amarantha emerges in A Court of Thorns and Roses as the ruthless High Queen of Prythian, a once-beautiful Fae whose grief over her sister Clythia's death at human hands has twisted her into a tyrant. She seizes control of the courts by stripping the High Lords of their powers and binding them to her service, ruling through fear and cruelty from her throne beneath the mountain. Her reign is defined by elaborate sadistic games, including the three trials she forces upon Feyre Archeron, and her eventual downfall comes when Feyre solves her riddle and breaks the curse, leading to Amarantha's death at the hands of the freed High Lords.
