He carries the curious dissonance of a young face beneath the weight of a much older life. There is something almost theatrical in his careful self-presentation, as though every crease and shadow has been placed with deliberate care.

A student of history and night watchman at a museum, Anatoly makes a bargain that leaves time unable to mark him as it marks other people. Decades later, at fifty, he remains outwardly in his twenties or thirties, disguising that impossible youth with painstaking makeup. He becomes a professor of the past, living proof that a life can stretch far beyond its natural shape—and that even immortality demands a performance.
Description
Anatoly has an average build and a face that appears strikingly youthful, closer to his twenties or early thirties than to middle age. His features are carefully altered with makeup and theatrical aging—painted creases, shadows, and other touches meant to lend him the years his face will not show. The contrast between his fresh-looking skin and meticulously applied age gives him an almost stage-made appearance. He favors plain, practical clothing, carrying himself with the composed, observant air of a scholar.
