Beautiful Far Away · Character
Дмитрий Байкалов
Also known as Байкалов, Дмитрий
- Minor
- First seen · Book 1 · Ch. 88
He has the quiet, familiar air of someone more at home among stories than in the spotlight, bundled warmly at a school desk amid the make-believe of a film set. There is an appealing contrast between the fantastical setting and his grounded, unassuming presence.

Dmitriy Baikalov appears briefly as a participant seated at a school desk during the filming of an adaptation of Night Watch, dressed for winter. In the afterword, he is identified as a literary critic and editor at the science-fiction magazine If. The author credits Baikalov with the idea of a world where reincarnation has been proven, a small contribution with an expansive imaginative reach.
Description
Baikalov is seen seated at a school desk in a staged school for mages, wearing a warm winter outfit. The text offers no specific description of his height, build, face, hair, eyes, or coloring. His appearance is therefore defined chiefly by the bundled clothing and the ordinary, observer-like presence he has amid the film set’s theatrical surroundings.
