Leonid Balashov reaches the reader only as a voice preserved on tape, carrying the uncanny intimacy of someone speaking across an absence. His measured self-introduction leaves a sense of a life briefly made present through sound.

Leonid Balashov is heard only through an audio recording, speaking from beyond his death. He says he was born in 1932, died in 1973, and had been head of the gas-dynamics department at Bauman. The text identifies him as a former life of Ivan Petrenko, but offers no living presence or physical portrait of Balashov himself.
Description
The text provides no visual description of Leonid Balashov: he is present solely as a voice on an audio recording. His height, build, age in appearance, complexion, hair, eyes, face, and clothing are all unspecified. For a visual reference, the recording itself is the only grounded image; any portrait of the man would require details beyond the text.
