Beautiful Far Away · Character
Николай Туванский
Also known as Коля, Николай
- Minor
- First seen · Book 1 · Ch. 68
Nikolay seems to shrink from the space around him, a slight, hesitant figure whose frequent blinking betrays how uneasy he feels. Even his voice, described as somewhat hard of hearing in conversation, suggests someone who is never quite at ease in the room.

Nikolay Tuvansky first comes through as a somewhat hard-of-hearing voice on a speakerphone, discussing nationalism and democracy. When he is later seen, he is a small, thin, timid man who blinks often and is wholly cowed by his forceful wife. The contrast between his abstract talk and his visibly apprehensive manner gives him a distinctly vulnerable presence.
Description
Nikolay is a small, thin man, with a timid bearing and a habit of blinking frequently. The text does not specify his age, skin tone, hair, eyes, or facial features, so those details should not be supplied. His visible nervousness is his clearest distinguishing trait; no particular clothing or accessories are described.
