Sakanisi Tadashi carries the quiet authority of a man accustomed to being received with respect. Against the stillness of a garden and the hush of falling snow, his formal bearing feels almost painfully fragile.

Sakanisi Tadashi is a respected patron who commissions the Garden of Stones for his house of rice paper. When he comes to receive the work, he steps into the garden pale, as snow falls and his hair turns gray before the eyes. He dies by seppuku with a penknife, a stark and solemn end that transforms the garden’s quiet beauty into a scene of profound gravity.

Description

Sakanisi Tadashi is a respected Japanese man, shown in traditional or otherwise formal, restrained clothing. The text gives no precise age, height, build, complexion, facial structure, or eye color. His hair is notable for turning gray beneath falling snow, and his face grows pale. A small penknife wound marks his abdomen; beyond these details, his appearance is left largely undescribed.
