Emberus

Emberus first manifests in Book 4 as a colossal, primordial deity whose default form is a massive, gooey blue-hued rock entity that can ignite into orange-red fire curls. His introduction establishes him as a distant, quest-giving god whose divine patronage is transactional: Carl’s worship yields tangible benefits while simultaneously entangling the crawler in the god’s personal tragedy—the unsolved murder of his son. Across the series, Emberus evolves from a remote divine benefactor into an active, emotionally invested patron whose grief and vengeance become intertwined with Carl’s own survival narrative.
