High Priest Darryl Caruthers
Also known as Darryl Caruthers, High Priest Darryl
- Minor
- First seen · Book 1 · Ch. 10
Darryl looks unexpectedly ordinary for a high priest, as if ceremony has been draped over a man who might otherwise disappear into a crowd. That plainness makes the sudden intensity of his expression all the more striking.

High Priest Darryl Caruthers first appears in ceremonial robes, an unassuming figure whose attire is likened to a chartered accountant’s costume-party outfit. When anger overtakes him, he lashes out with magic, hurling Rufus and Gary against a wall before being thrown into the stonework himself. He is found dead at the base of the stairs afterward, his body stripped of useful supplies.
Description
Darryl is a plain-looking man whose face is not described in specific detail. His ceremonial robes stand out more than his features, giving him the incongruous air of an accountant dressed for a costume party. The text notes his face flushing with anger, but provides no details about his hair, eyes, complexion, build, or the robes’ colors.
