Hiram has the compact, unmistakable solidity of someone built to carry more than his share. Though shorter than Jason, he seems hard to move, with a quiet endurance that makes even a steep trail look like ordinary work.

Hiram first appears as a sturdy traveler hauling a load up a mountain, his strength matched by an unshowy persistence. When shabs attack, he is wounded but keeps his footing, emerging bloodied and triumphant over the fallen creature. Later, he stands among the people gathered around the mayor, a grandfather whose life reaches beyond the immediate dangers of the road.
Description
Hiram is a stocky, compactly powerful man in his late-middle years, shorter than Jason and broad through the chest. Thick, ropy muscle gives his limbs a dense, work-hardened look, and his weight and build suggest considerable strength. He wears practical clothes suited to travel and labor, often with a large backpack close at hand. His bearing is steady and grounded, with the sturdy presence of someone accustomed to carrying heavy loads.
