Cartiz begins as the distant, almost mythical capital of Aquiria in The Will of the Many, a city whose political weight is felt more through absence than presence. Across the series it transforms from a static symbol of imperial authority into a living, contested arena where the Hierarchy’s fractures are laid bare. By later volumes, Cartiz’s streets, palaces, and catacombs become the stage for open rebellion, shifting alliances, and the final reckoning between the ruling elite and the oppressed.
