Suus Harbor begins as an unnamed, unremarkable coastal settlement in the early chapters of The Will of the Many, serving merely as a backdrop for the protagonist’s first brush with the Hierarchy’s reach. Over the course of the series it is revealed to be the last surviving port of the conquered island nation of Suus, its docks and warehouses quietly repurposed by the Hierarchy for military logistics. By the later books the harbor becomes a covert staging ground for the Suusian resistance, its hidden coves and tide-dependent tunnels enabling the smuggling of weapons and refugees. Ultimately, the location transforms from a symbol of subjugation into the fulcrum of the climactic naval uprising that helps topple the Hierarchy’s regional control.
