Western River begins as a simple cartographic feature on the Iudicium map in The Will of the Many, but its strategic importance grows as the series unfolds. By later books, the river becomes a contested corridor for troop movements, supply lines, and clandestine crossings that shape the Hierarchy’s military campaigns. Its shifting banks and seasonal floods are repeatedly exploited by both loyalist and rebel forces, turning the waterway into a living participant in the struggle for Solivagus.
