Peliphagy, the foundational power-transfer mechanism of the Hierarchy, begins in The Will of the Many as a rigid, exponential pyramid that funnels half of every subordinate’s collected Will upward, concentrating near-godlike authority at the summit. Across the series the system is revealed to be both a literal metaphysical engine and a political weapon: its rules are bent by secret pacts, its costs are weaponized through selective starvation, and its architecture is ultimately threatened by protagonists who learn to siphon, store, or destroy Will outside the sanctioned flow. What starts as an immutable law of nature slowly mutates into a contested battleground where rebels, loyalists, and reformers each attempt to rewrite—or dismantle—the Hierarchy’s central circulatory system.
