The Will-Locked Stylus first appears in The Will of the Many as a mysterious, inert artifact whose true nature is only hinted at. Across the series it evolves from a dormant relic into a pivotal instrument of will-manipulation, its latent powers gradually unlocked by successive protagonists. By the later books the stylus becomes both a weapon and a conduit, its evolving bond with its wielder mirroring the larger struggle over who controls the Hierarchy’s fate.
