Fiddler begins as a grizzled Bridgeburner sapper whose battlefield pragmatism and quiet loyalty anchor the Malazan 14th Army’s march across Raraku. Over successive volumes his role expands from frontline demolitions expert to reluctant standard-bearer of the fallen regiment’s legacy, culminating in his ascension to the role of First Sword of the newly reborn Bridgeburners. Across the arc he transforms from a weary survivor into a living emblem of Malazan resilience, carrying both the regiment’s songs and its sorrows into the series’ final confrontations.
