Pormqual's Treasurer enters the Malazan saga as a haughty noble whose courtly affectations make him an object of contempt among the sailors of the Seventh Army. His brief arc culminates in a brutal comeuppance: after being struck unconscious and weighted with coin sacks, he is hurled overboard to drown in the Otataral Sea. Though his role is confined to Deadhouse Gates, the Treasurer's swift fall from privilege to corpse encapsulates the series' recurring theme that imperial arrogance is swiftly punished by the indifferent violence of war.
Description
A tall, stooped man of middle years with a hatchet face and gaunt cheeks powdered light blue in court fashion. He wears oversized Napan sea gear and a sealskin hood, his long-fingered, pallid hands emerging from heavy swaths of Napan raincloak. His face shows not a drop of sweat despite the heat, strangely pale beneath the hood, his painted eyebrows adding to his diffident, aristocratic air.
