Judgement's Round first appears in Deadhouse Gates as a modest circular plaza fronting a temple nave in what is implied to be the city of Aren, its painted imperial walls and gas-lamps lending an air of ordered sanctity. Across later volumes the site is revealed to be the symbolic heart of imperial justice in Seven Cities, its fountain becoming both a place of public decree and a silent witness to rebellion. By the time of The Bonehunters the plaza has been scarred by riot and siege, its once-bright frescoes blackened by smoke, yet it remains the stage on which imperial authority is either reasserted or spectacularly overturned.
