Fener's Sacred Tattoos first appear in Deadhouse Gates as living black boar-fur patterns that cloak the entire body of the god's chosen, crowned by a raised nape mark of tusks across the chest. Across the series they evolve from simple divine markings into living conduits of Fener's power, shifting, bleeding, and even migrating when the god is wounded or displaced. Their presence becomes a visible barometer of Fener's health and location, ultimately marking both the deity's fall and the tattoos' new, uneasy stewardship under another power.
