The Temple of Shadow first emerges in Deadhouse Gates as a forgotten, cyclopean ruin whose dust-laden burial chambers hint at an ancient cult of Hood. Across the series it evolves from a static, half-buried necropolis into a living conduit between the mortal realm and Hood’s Warren, its stone pedestals becoming altars for resurrection rites and pacts with the god of death. By later volumes its corridors are revealed to be a nexus where the timelines of fallen characters converge, allowing the temple itself to act as both prison and gateway for souls seeking—or fleeing—final rest.
