Maxillium takes his small concerns with the gravity of a grown-up, intent on his scribbled list and eager to share what he has made. That solemn focus, softened by a child's open enthusiasm, makes him quietly delightful.

At five, Maxillium Ladrian is an earnest little boy whose lists and drawings matter deeply to him. His serious attention to his scribbles and pictures gives Wax a glimpse of the tender, ordinary life he is trying to protect. The book offers only a brief view of him, but in it he is unmistakably his father's cherished child.
Description
Maxillium is a five-year-old boy, but the text gives no details about his height, build, complexion, hair, eyes, or clothing. His face is described as very serious when he studies a list of his own scribbles, and he eagerly presents pictures of a dog and a cat. His attentive expression and earnest manner are the only specific visual cues provided.
