Shum appears briefly as a young man supporting Mennis, a small act of practical care that gives him a place among the people moving through the ash-stained world. The book offers no further account of his life or fate, leaving his story in that single, watchful moment.
Description
Shum is identified as a young man, but no specific details of his face, hair, eyes, coloring, or build are given. His clothing is not described; keep it plain and practical if depicting him in the setting. His posture is attentive as he lends Mennis support, with a brief pause that suggests he has noticed something in the air.
