Eastern Dominance Village
Rural skaa village in the Eastern or southern areas with clay fields, peasants, and plantation manors. Site of early story events and oppression.
Eastern Dominance Village begins as a quiet, clay-field skaa settlement under the Final Empire’s heel in The Well of Ascension, its plantation manors and peasant hovels serving as the first glimpse of rural oppression. Across the series the village transforms from a passive backdrop of suffering into a microcosm of the Catacendre’s upheaval: its fields are burned during the chaos of the empire’s collapse, then later become a proving ground for Elend’s fledgling government as refugees flood in and the villagers must decide whether to embrace the new world or cling to the old. By the later books the once-anonymous hamlet has grown into a modest trade hub whose survival hinges on the balance between autonomy and the watchful eye of the Basin’s centralized authority.
