The Former Guardhouse begins as a simple military outpost in the chaotic aftermath of the Catacendre, but is swiftly repurposed into a modest headquarters for the new government. Over the course of The Hero of Ages, it becomes a symbol of the fragile order Spook and his allies attempt to maintain amid the chaos of Ruin’s influence. Its transformation from a utilitarian guard post to a glass-windowed meeting place reflects the broader shift from imperial control to a tentative, human-led society.
