Mistcoat first appears in The Lost Metal as the signature garment of Waxillium Ladrian, a white Roughs duster that has been deliberately cut into two layers of thick ribbons to accommodate his Allomantic Steelpushing. This modification transforms the coat from a simple frontier garment into a functional tool that allows Wax to manipulate metal without the fabric interfering with his powers. Over the course of the series, the coat evolves from a practical necessity into a symbol of Wax's identity as a lawman caught between two worlds, its distinctive appearance making him instantly recognizable in both the Roughs and the Basin.
