Sazed's floodgate mechanism
unique_objectLarge engineering construct of wood, gears, wires, and pulleys with four heavy floodgates suspended by rock counterweight nets, designed to block/release underground river flow.
Sazed's floodgate mechanism first appears in The Hero of Ages as a massive wooden-and-metal construct of gears, pulleys, and rock-counterweighted floodgates designed to control the subterranean river that feeds the canals of Luthadel. Over the course of the novel, the device evolves from a static engineering marvel into a pivotal instrument of salvation: its deliberate release floods the battlefield, drowning the invading koloss army and buying the protagonists the time needed to confront the true threat at the Well of Ascension. By the series’ end, the mechanism’s single decisive activation cements its legacy as both a feat of Terris ingenuity and the literal turning point that reshapes the post-Catacendre landscape.
