The Unaffiliated Zone first appears in Platform Decay as a modest-roofed plaza area with multilevel buildings, balconies, potted plants, and an open body of water reservoir. This location serves as a neutral territory that contrasts with the corporate-controlled environments typically encountered throughout the series. Its introduction marks a significant expansion of the world-building, providing a glimpse into spaces that exist outside the rigid corporate structures that define most of the Murderbot universe.
