The Karna-Hlaven System emerges in the final volume of the Old Man's War series as a strategically vital Obin-claimed star system whose gas giants, moons, and asteroid stations become the stage for Consu surveillance operations. While only appearing in The Shattering Peace, the system crystallizes the series' long-running themes of alien territorial claims, technological espionage, and the uneasy balance of power between species. Its revelation as a Consu observation post underscores the persistent, unseen influence of the Consu across the galaxy and sets the stage for the series' climactic confrontations.
