Pitlaugh
MinorTen stone of bristling muscle and scarred wisdom stare out from beneath those heavy brows, a growl that seems to rumble from the earth's own core. Even in his twilight years, this old wolfhound carries the unyielding spirit of a guardian who has earned every gray hair.
In the Powder Mage Trilogy, Pitlaugh serves as a poignant symbol of collateral damage in the brutal clash between mortal ambition and sorcery. Introduced in Promise of Blood as a loyal, imposing old wolfhound and steadfast companion to the Tamas household, his fierce presence offers both protection and comfort. The dog's arc takes a heartbreaking turn during a Warden's savage attack, which snaps his spine and leaves his hind legs paralyzed at a grotesque angle; reduced to crawling and whimpering in agony, Pitlaugh transforms from formidable guardian into a pitiable victim. His suffering underscores the innocent lives shattered by the revolution and Privileged magic, leaving a lasting emotional scar on those who witness his fate.
Physical Description
A large, muscular old wolfhound weighing around ten stone, with thick graying fur that speaks of many battles, powerful jaws filled with strong teeth, and a broad head with wise, fierce eyes. His ears show signs of past fights. In his most common state he stands imposingly, but later appears with a severely twisted spine and rear legs splayed at unnatural angles. His presence is one of raw canine power mixed with the weary dignity of age.
