Kresimir's Promise

Concept

An ancient magical oath or prophecy that if a god is harmed, Kresimir will return to completely destroy the offending nation, razing every living thing to allow a fresh start.

Kresimir's Promise looms over the Powder Mage series as an ancient, apocalyptic safeguard: should a god like Kresimir or his siblings be harmed, the deity will return to annihilate the offending nation entirely, wiping the slate clean for new life. In Promise of Blood, this threat is first revealed as the powder mages' coup against the Kez god-king unfolds, with Tamas and his allies grappling with the catastrophic implications of their rebellion. As the trilogy progresses, the promise evolves from a dire warning into a tangible mechanism of divine intervention, forcing characters to navigate the blurred lines between mortal warfare and godly retribution. Ultimately, it drives pivotal choices about sacrifice, the nature of divinity, and whether humanity can break free from the gods' tyrannical cycle.
