Raa family

The Raa family make even a dinner gathering feel like a ceremony: spare in manner, rigid in posture, and bound to a severe sense of form. Their rough earth-toned clothes and measured stillness suggest a household where little is casual and every silence carries weight.

The Raa family emerges in Iron Gold as a tightly knit, tradition-bound house whose austere customs and guarded demeanor mark them as a distinct cultural force within the Rising’s fractured society. Their rigid dinner-table rituals and preference for handmade clothing underscore a collective identity rooted in discipline rather than ostentation. Across the series, the Raas transition from enigmatic outsiders to pivotal political actors whose internal cohesion and external alliances shape the balance of power on the Rim. Their evolution reflects both the pressures of interstellar war and the gradual erosion of their once-impenetrable isolation.

Description

The Raa are a family of rangy, austere figures, with pale skin and long jaws giving them a lean, sharply defined appearance. More than a dozen gather around an oval stone table, seated rigidly on thin cushions. Their clothing is handmade and rough in texture, in muted earth tones rather than bright or ornate colors. Together they project a reserved, disciplined presence, as if even their stillness were carefully practiced.
