Ganymede begins as a distant, ice-locked moon whose shipyards secretly birth the colossal dreadnought Colossus, yet its true significance emerges only when it openly declares for the Rising. The moon’s alliance provides Darrow’s forces with a critical naval bastion and a staging ground for the assault on Luna, but this allegiance proves costly: the Society retaliates by annihilating the moon’s cities and shipyards, turning Ganymede into a charred graveyard that haunts the later books. In the post-conquest era, the moon’s ruins become a symbol of both the Rising’s early triumphs and the devastating price of rebellion, its skeletal docks still referenced as a cautionary tale when new fleets are mustered.
