The Hesperides Range emerges in the Red Rising Saga as a remote, strategically vital mountain chain on Mercury whose significance grows from a mere cartographic reference to a decisive theater of war. By the events of Dark Age, the range becomes the crucible in which the fate of the Republic’s invasion is tested, its jagged peaks and hidden valleys offering both sanctuary and slaughter to the beleaguered forces of the Rising. Its evolution from background terrain to a contested stronghold underscores the saga’s recurring theme that geography itself is a weapon—one that can shelter dreams of freedom or entomb them beneath snow and ash.
