The Northern Highlands first appear as a distant, snow-capped region mentioned only in passing during the early books, but they gradually evolve into a strategic stronghold and symbolic heartland of resistance. By the later installments, the Highlands transform from a peripheral wilderness into a fortified base of operations for the Sons of Ares and later the Republic, hosting critical battles and political summits that shape the fate of the solar system. Their harsh terrain and isolation become assets rather than liabilities, turning the region into both a refuge and a launching pad for rebellion.
