The Deep begins as the lethal mining tunnels beneath Lykos colony on Mars, a symbol of Red oppression and the brutal extraction economy. By the sixth book, the name has been repurposed for the pressurized underwater cities carved into Europa’s rocky core, transforming a place of suffocating darkness into a beacon of Red resilience and technological defiance. This evolution mirrors the saga’s larger arc: what was once a site of exploitation becomes a stronghold of rebellion and survival.
