The sunblood mare first appears in Dark Age as a rare, desert-adapted breed native to Mercury, distinguished by its striking orange mane and revered as a living sculpture. Though its legs are vulnerable to the planet’s harsh wastes, the breed is prized by both Gold and lowColor riders for its endurance and beauty. Across the series, the sunblood mare evolves from a mere curiosity of Mercury’s ecology into a potent symbol of survival and cultural prestige, its scarcity and fragility mirroring the precarious balance of power on the planet.
