The Thumper begins as a simple non-lethal Gray enforcement tool in Red Rising, a handheld metal baton crackling with electricity that delivers stunning shocks to subdue miners without killing them. Throughout the series, it evolves from a symbol of oppressive control into a weapon of resistance as Darrow and his allies repurpose captured Thumpers against their former masters. Its recurring presence underscores the shifting power dynamics between the Colors, transforming from an instrument of subjugation into a tool of rebellion.
